2003 Walk to D'Feet ALS

View photos!

LOS ANGELES, JUNE 1, 2003.  The ALS Association is proud to announce the details of the largest event of the year, our 2003 ALS Walk to D'Feet!  This year's walk will be held at Reed Park in Santa Monica (same site as last year),  Last year, over 2,000 people showed their support for the ALS Association and the local patient community by taking to the streets for the 5k route through Santa Monica.

We are gearing up for an even more successful walk this year and are asking for your help!  The most popular method for raising money for the walk was through teamwork!  Supporters are encouraged to form family, work, school or church groups and show their support for the local community.

Directions:
The walk will begin at Reed Park (formerly known as Lincoln Park) 1133 7th Street, Santa Monica, CA  90403-5203, between 7th Street and California Avenue (see map below for driving directions)

Parking:
Parking around Reed Park can be difficult; we have made arrangements with the following parking lots:

  • 710 Wilshire Blvd.

  • 1212 7th Street

There will be a flat fee of $3.00 per car.  Please try to car pool if possible, since parking may be limited.

Free Parking for PALS (Persons with ALS) will be available at:

St. Monica Church
725 California Avenue
Santa Monica, CA  90403
(This location is directly across from Reed Park)

Metered parking is available in the lot located at Santa Monica Blvd and 7th Street (2 hours maximum) bring lots of quarters.  It takes 4 quarters for 2 hour parking.  Please keep an eye on what time you arrived, as to avoid being ticketed.  There is also 2 hour metered parking along Wilshire Blvd.

Gathering Area:
We are encouraging all team captains to make signs with their team name on them, so their walkers can identify where they can find you.  If you are not able to make a sign prior to Saturday, October 4th, we will have material available at the Team Flag table for you to create your sign.  Please do not stake your sign into the ground.  The City of Santa Monica will not allow us to do this.  Hold up your signs for your walkers to see.

Registration:
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., to 9:30 a.m.  Once all your walkers have gathered, Team Captains, please do the following:

  1. Collect any monies from your walkers.

  2. Make sure they have signed the waiver on the bottom of the red brochure.  If you need additional waivers, you can download and print them here!  Waivers will also be available at the registration table, the day of the walk.

  3. Bring all monies and waivers to the registration table.

  4. T-shirts will be available to all participates who have raised $25 or more, please proceed to the T-shirt table and collect Walk-to-D'Feet T-shirts so you can distribute them to all your walkers.

  5. If you or your walkers have not registered, please do so immediately by either emailing me or calling me at 818/865-8067.

  6. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the walk will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.  However, to insure the safety of all walkers, we will stagger the teams start times.

  7. The walk should end at approximately 11:30 a.m.  Please plan on bringing a picnic lunch and enjoying a fun afternoon in the park.

Route:
We are asking that all walkers remain on the sidewalks during the entire 3 mile walk.   Please obey all traffic rules and regulations and watch out for uneven pavements and vehicles.

Refreshments:
Bagels and coffee will be available before the walk. Water bottles are also available for walkers to take along the route.
